IQAC Sponsored Seminar on ‘Developing a Successful Research Career: Prospects and Challenges’

The Department of History and Philosophy of North South University and the IQAC (Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, NSU) jointly organized a daylong seminar on ‘Developing a Successful Research Career: Prospects and Challenges’ on 3rd of August 2017. The main objective of the seminar was to examine some aspects of doing research in academia especially in the field of humanities and social science and to see the prospects and challenges of academic research in Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Sharif Uddin Ahmed, chairman of DHP chaired the session as the session Chair. Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor Dr. Atiqul Islam inaugurated the seminar session as the Chief Guest, while Dean Dr. Abdur Rob Khan was present as a Special Guest. Director of IQAC Dr. Nazmun Nahar was also present. Dr. Minhaj Mahmud, Senior Research Fellow of BIDS (Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies) presented the main paper on ‘Doing Research: Rationale, Process, Types, Paradigms and Formulation of Research’. Dr. Norman K. Swazo and Dr. Maria Eleonor Marcussen of the Department of History and Philosophy presented the other two papers on ‘Is Research For Me?’ and ‘Pursuing Research: Strategies for Young Researchers’ respectively.

The seminar was attended by a number of senior faculty members, administrators and students of NSU. It ended after a very interactive discussion session between the paper presenters and the participants.
