Foreign Faculty Program for Short-term Teaching or Research
North South University (NSU), established in 1992 under the Private University Act, is a private sector Center for Excellence in Higher Education in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Its registered address is Plot-15, Block-B, Bashundhara, Dhaka-1229, Bangladesh (hereinafter referred to as “NSU”). NSU is interested in hosting foreign faculty, providing opportunities for its faculty to collaborate with other academics for short-term teaching or research projects. Prospective Program participants may also include faculty from NSU MoU partner institutions, at the discretion of NSU.
Objectives
The NSU Foreign Faculty Program for Short-term Teaching or Research seeks to:
Promote cross-cultural academic exchange and collaboration.
Enhance the quality and diversity of teaching and research throughout NSU.
Provide faculty members with professional development opportunities.
Strengthen institutional ties and create long-term partnerships in teaching and research.
Eligibility
This call is open to all PhD holders with teaching, research, and/or unique, senior-level life experiences through which NSU student and faculty learning is enhanced. Applicants should demonstrate:
A strong academic or professional background.
A clear plan for teaching or research activities to be undertaken during the residency.
The potential to contribute to North South University’s academic community.
Short-term Options
Residencies at NSU should be a minimum of one week and a maximum of four months (or one semester) and can include the following options, including online only options, for consideration:
1. Teaching
- Deliver guest lectures or teach or co-teach courses at North South University.
- Teaching load: typically 3-6 hours per week.
- Potential activities:
Conduct at least one seminar or workshop in area of expertise.
Teach no more than two courses or sections in one semester.
Participate in curriculum development discussions.
Engage with students through office hours or mentoring sessions.
- Expected outcomes:
Enhanced international perspectives in course delivery.
Development of joint teaching materials.
Strengthened international partnerships.
2. Research Collaboration
- Engage in collaborative research projects with host faculty.
- Duration: Minimum one week special visit, or three-week intensive course or training or maximum one semester.
- Potential activities:
Conduct joint research on mutually agreed topics.
Utilize NSU’s research facilities and resources.
Participate in research seminars and colloquia.
Co-author papers or prepare joint grant proposals.
- Expected outcomes:
Production of co-authored publications or conference papers.
Development of long-term research partnerships.
Enhanced research networks and potential for future collaborations.
- Additional consideration:
Access to specific databases or archives at NSU and in Bangladesh.
Access to partner NGOs, INGOs, and other organizations to collect primary data (with certain conditions applied).
Applicants should clearly outline their proposed activities, expected outcomes, and how the residency at NSU aligns with their professional development goals.
Funding and Support
Selected participants will receive (applies to participants in residence only):
Travel and accommodation expenses from NSU.
Access to necessary academic resources and facilities from NSU.
Remuneration in the form of a monthly stipend.
Note: any expenses associated with the participant’s accompanying family are the responsibility of the participant.

Interested persons should submit the following documents:
A current curriculum vitae (CV).
A detailed proposal (maximum 3 pages) outlining the intended teaching or research activities, including objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, and potential benefits to the applicant and to NSU, where applicable.
Evaluation Criteria
Evaluation Process:
- NSU Office of External Affairs will review all applications in conjunction with the relevant School Dean and Department or Program Chair.
- Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview or to provide additional information.
- Decisions will be made based on the overall strength of the proposal and its alignment with the evaluation criteria.
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
Alignment with Institutional Goals
Relevance to NSU’s strategic plans.
Potential to strengthen existing or develop new institutional partnerships.
Contribution to internationalization efforts of NSU.
Academic Merit of Proposed Activities
Clarity and feasibility of the proposed teaching or research plan.
Innovation in teaching methods or research approach.
Potential impact on students, faculty, or field of study.
Applicant Qualifications
Relevant expertise and experience in the proposed area.
Track record of successful international collaborations.
