Receiving Students
Coming to a new country can be frightening if you don’t know anyone. Therefore, the OEA ensures that international students coming to Bangladesh for the first time are received by the Office Support Staff (OSS) members of the OEA. Regardless of the time, the OSS members will receive the incoming international students so that they can safely commute to their designated destination.
The incoming student is requested to send the photocopies (through a friend or an acquaintance) of his/her passport, visa, offer letter, flight information to the International Affairs Officer at least two days prior arrival. It should be noted that NSU will only allow one person (a friend or an acquaintance) to accompany the OSS member and airport entry and transportation fee will be borne by the international student.
Orientation Program
The OEA organizes a separate orientation program for the international students each semester so that the students can feel welcomed and learn what the OEA can offer them.
Recommendation Letters & Certificates
The International Affairs Officer provides several recommendation letters and certificates to the international students for their studentship verification. These documents are integral as they help the Special Branch Police (SBP) Office to issue their security clearances and extended visas. In the following, the documents provided by the OEA are listed.
- ‘To Whom It May Concern’
- Visa Extension recommendation letter
- NSU Registration Certificate’
- International student list
To receive these documents, contact the International Affairs Officer during student hours or by a separate appointment.
Communicating with SB Police
The OIA always cooperates with the Special Branch Police (SBP) regarding international students. Any information required by the SBP is submitted instantaneously so that the international students can reside in this country legally. Each semester, the SBP requires the following information which the International Affairs Officer provides:
- Name of the new international student
- Nationality
- Date of entry into Bangladesh
- Present addresses of the international student
- Passport number
- Passport validity
- Visa type and validity
- Purpose of stay
- Name of the institution’
- Remarks
The requirements of the SBP Office are subject to change. Therefore, the International Affairs Officer aids the SBP Office to smoothen the verification process. Due to the language barrier, the International Affairs Officer also acts as an interpreter to bridge the communication gap between international students and the SBP in various situations.
Personal Problem
If the student faces any personal problems (harassment, bullying, etc.), the OIA helps out that student. If any student faces such problems, the OIA advises the student to go to the Proctor’s Office for guidance and help. The OIA always keeps the well being of the students in mind. Therefore, the OIA encourages international students to share their concerns for the betterment of the international students and OIA.
The international students are requested to come during the following hours:
1. 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
2. 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
3. By special appointment (which has to be made at least a day before)
The OIA will warmly welcome all students and will do its best to solve their problems.
